THE HISTORY
While Point Lobos is justifiably famous for its scenic beauty and remarkable diversity of plants and wildlife, it is also a place rich in human history. Over the past 150 years, this area has played host to a virtual parade of human activity. At one time or another, Point Lobos has been home to Native Americans, Chinese fishermen, Japanese abalone harvesters, and Portuguese whalers. It has been the site of an abalone cannery, coal mining business, granite quarry, military base, and numerous film productions.
