Unlike many state parks whose purpose is to provide a wide variety of recreational experiences or to preserve historic sites, Point Lobos was acquired primarily to preserve its rare and scenic beauty and unusual landscape. The natural conditions of Point Lobos make it necessary for teachers to provide close supervision of their students at all times. Point Lobos is the perfect locale for students to observe marine mammals in their natural environment, study their various habitats and the unique flora and fauna, or visit the Whalers Cabin Museum and learn about the different people who lived at Point Lobos.
